Initial Visit Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition.
Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with Dr. Wesselink to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options.
In order to determine what your actual problem is, Dr. Wesselink will ask you various questions related to your condition. Next, a number of specialized tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent. Dr. Wesselink is one of only three Diplomate Chiropractic Orthopedists in Tucson, and has extensive post-graduate education in evaluation of spinal, musculo-skeletal, soft tissue, and neurological conditions.
Your specific condition may require referral for x-rays or other diagnostic imaging to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. X-rays are recommended judiciously with risks and benefits kept in mind, and are not a requirement for treatment in all cases. X-rays and diagnostic imaging studies are referred out to diagnostic imaging centers to ensure excellent quality imaging and radiology specialist reports.
Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, patients will generally be provided with a complete review of examination findings and assessment of the condition. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed, including length of treatment, likely outcomes, and overall anticipated response to treatment.
If indicated and agreed upon, an initial treatment is performed. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. Just as every patient is different, each treatment plan is customized to the patient’s condition and response to treatment. Dr. Wesselink is trained in numerous techniques including Diversified, Cox Flexion-Distraction, Active Release Technique, Myofascial Release/Trigger Point Therapy, Spinal Decompression, Palmer-Gonstead, Activator, Applied Kinesiology, and many others.
Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. Dr. Wesselink has had extensive advanced training in spinal and joint rehabilitation, and customizes self-care to each patient's individual needs.
You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days to observe response to treatment and modify treatment plan.
